Dear Writers,

I have received quite a few e-mails from people  who would be interested in submitting to Seven Seas, but are not quite sure what I'm looking for in an essay.

I would like to give you a glimpse at a personal essay by one of my favorite writers: Roger Rosenblatt. Prof. Rosenblatt is an author, essayist, TV commentator, and was one of my teachers at Southampton College, New York.

Here is a link to a personal essay he wrote for Time Magazine: Winter Lights.

I don't expect Seven Seas writers to write in the same style--not even in a similar style. Send me your own words and thoughts. Send me your own voice.

Also, here are a few helpful pages that discuss the genre of the personal essay:

The Poynter Institute

Capital Community College, Connecticut

Random House

Good writing!

Annika J. Neudecker,
Editor
