Yearning For Home - Anne M. Jasper
Issue:  October 2002

Review written by Mona

I just discovered Seven Seas magazine today, and read Anne Jasper's "Yearning For Home"--a great, nostalgic piece that I could relate to, but in lesser ways. I've never been away from home for very long, and certainly not visiting other countries, but it seems like every time I go away, no matter how beautiful the place where I'm at, I start missing home within a few weeks.

Food With Father - by Jill G. Matthews
Issue:  June 2002

Review written by Janet Milliron

Food with Father leaves the reader with his mouth watering and an irresistable urge to get out Grandma's cookbook and make "real" food, with butter and cream and other taboo ingredients. It also leaves you with an aching desire to throw yourself into your father's arms and be his "little angel" one more time. Thank you, Jill, for helping me smell the garlic and taste the fettuccine sauce my father made, one more time.

Change - by David Huffman
Issue:  October 2002

Review written by Paul

This is a really wonderful essay. I had my 11/12 grade language arts classes read it and plan to follow up with some additional activities.  The author brought a variety of important events from his life into the story and had a colorful use of language. Thanks for sharing.

Marcus and Susan - by Cheryl Montelle

Issue:  September 2002

Review written by Nancy Rainford

I was surprised to be so instantly moved by the author's essay. She writes with passion and clarity, masterfully transposing her personal thoughts into universal language.

Proper - by Owen Hollifield
Issue:  June 2002

Review written by Ivor Biggun

What a good essay, this kid has some future ahead of him as a writer, if he wants one. The essay had a dry sense of humor evident through out, it was very witty. Well done.

Hug Sounds - by Martha Dillon
Issue:  June 2002

Review written by Mary Shoen

Martha makes ordinary things special when she writes. You should read the rest, this is only the tip of the iceberg! I am her big sister, so I guess this review won't count, but her stories are true, and her heart puts in a warm rosy glow with all the everyday stuff we don't think about until she writes it. She does take after our mother - another writer.

Where I Come From - by Amie Abdulnour
Issue:  June 2002

Review written by Christina

What a delightful story. I have never been there but I felt as if I myself were walking in this same village. This article was touching and really hit home about appreciating where we have been! Thank you for sharing it.

Deep in the Woods of Maine - by Annika Neudecker
Issue:  June 2002

Review written by Wambui K

I really enjoyed reading your essay "Deep in the Woods of Maine". I can really relate to it, as I too have 2 homes--one in Kenya and the other here in Miami, Fl. It's a beautiful piece, and it reminds me that even though we learn a lot from travelling and living in different countries, there is no place like home!
