Lubby - by Tessa Dratt
Issue: May 2003
Review written by
Yvonne Foster
A
wonderful story by Ms. Dratt about her "uncle" that brought
tears to my eyes. I came
upon your site when searching the net for the history of Chicklets
gum... and because Lubby always kept a supply on hand, I found Seven
Seas. I'll be back.
Please convey my thanks to Tessa Dratt for her lovely
remembrance.

I
could almost see the frost forming on the windows and feel your disillusionment.
Remind me never to go to Japan and count barnacles, but thanks for
taking me along on your trip.

Kissed
by Someone Else -

Issue: November 2003 Review written by

I
enjoyed your glimpse into both past and present and particularly your
line: "This memory is for rocking chair moments, when arthritis has
gripped your knees and forced you to live on warm tea and
solitude." It made me want to go out and steal a kiss from someone--if
only for the memories.

Among
the Tenors -
by Laura Kelly
Issue: October 2003
Review written by Maria
Harden
I
enjoyed the essay "Among the Tenors" by Laura Kelly, mostly
because of the content and how it was portrayed. Seeing a different side
of the musical world was refreshing and energizing at the same
time.
Incidentally, the song she referred to at the end is called "The
Wheeler Song," by Jimmy Buffet. The lines she quoted neatly
summarized the story and left me pondering its meaning for some
time.
Kelly is a gifted writer who doesn't live within four walls, but scopes
out what is out there and makes it fit her life.

Sea
Change -
by Susan Moorhead
Issue: September 2003 Review written by
Nance Knauer Very
enjoyable and insightful essay. The writing is elegant and clean. The
last paragraph was especially strong, and these lines say it all:
"Somehow, despite ourselves, we had succeeded in giving them the
life they needed, instead of the life we wanted for them, and on the way
found happiness for ourselves as well."
Beautifully done. Hope that novel finds its way to the public soon.

Issue: September 2003 Review written by
Linda Simone
In the course of an
insanely busy day, where I have to pack in freelance work, grad-school
work, food shopping--all on a day off from my regular job, I happened to
see this essay and thought I'd just skim the first paragraph or two. But
Ms. Moorhead's wonderful writing and clear lucid storyline grabbed me
and pulled me along for the journey.
It made me realize that
to give up the dreams that have been hanging about like gnats and truly
see and bless the moment we're in and the paths we've chosen is a gift
and a freeing one, at that. Thank you, Ms. Moorhead, for a wonderful
essay. I hope that novel makes it to print.

Dreams
are meant to be dreamt, not always to be lived. I enjoyed the way you
built up the story, with all the details adding layer upon layer. It
flowed like the sea--the original idea, the build-up, the letdown, and
then the next wave as you realized you had achieved your dream, just not
in the form you had originally envisioned. Thank you for taking me along
on your journey.

Summer
Rattlers -

Light
humor plus a couple areas of suspense made this a fun read. The ending
tied in nicely with the beginning, and by the time I reached the middle
I was rapt. This started my day off in a pleasant, upbeat way.
